Method of preservation : For making the Licorice powder healthy fresh Licorice roots are collected. It should be noted that the roots should be free from any contamination by environmental toxins. Then they are washed properly to remove the physical impurities if any with pure water and dried in a dust free environment. Then it is grinded to make the fine powder. To maintain its freshness and medicinal properties, powdered Licorice should be stored in an air-tight container. The dried root will store indefinitely and can be sliced or ground before using.

Uses of Licorice Powder :
The roots of Glycyrrhiza glabra contain glycyrrhizin, a saponin that is 60 times sweeter than cane sugar. Licorice is a popular alternate sweetener, used by those who cannot use cane sugar.
Licorice increases the flow of saliva and acts as a soothing application to the throat. It is given in inflammatory conditions of the throat, catarrh, cough, hoarseness of voice, asthma and irritation of the larynx and of the urinary passages.
The most common use of Licorice is in cough lozenges and syrups for its action as an demulcent, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, anti-trussive, and antibiotic.
It is a cooling drug and is given in fevers to relieve thirst and burning sensation.
Licorice root powder as well as seed powder taken with milk is a good tonic and aphrodisiac.
Externally, it is applied with ghee or honey for cuts and wounds.
A tea made from the roots is an excellent thirst quencher. The powdered root is also used as a sweetener in other herb teas.
